Guardistallo
The second of the "Three towns, situated on a ridge of low hills parallel to the sea, between Montescudaio and Casale Marittimo. Guardistallo derives its name from medieval Latin Stallum Gualdi, is located on the summit of a hill, where the river Sterza flows into the Cecina, of Longobard origins, as its name witnesses, the village fell under domination by the Delia Gherardesca family, who gave it to the bishop of Volterra. Its surrounding area is, for the most part, covered with woods and a few pastures, and its principle activity is wine and oil.
Guardistallo is a medieval village that has remained almost completely intact, immersed in the countryside and with a beautiful view over the Tirreno and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.
The sea side resort of Cecina is about 12 km away.
