San Vincenzo

San Vincenzo offers Luxury and chic, whether shopping in the pedestrian zone or with a cocktail at the marina.  Furthermore, a night life that lives up to the “dolce far niente”.  This former fishing village offers many sporting activities as well as beaches suitable for families with children.  There is plenty of untouched nature nearby waiting to be explored; and finds from the Etrusker times can be viewed.  Add to all this, the charm of the traditional festivals and events that take place in the region over the whole year.  There are concerts and dances in the summer, outdoors in the warm evenings.  San Vincenzo just vibrates: it is as interesting for children as for the youngsters and adults – simple, luxurious, chic….. It is an ideal place for going off on tours for the day -  (also with bus or train) Florence, Siena, Pisa, Rome….

San Vincenzo has approx. 71000 inhabitants and is one of the larger resorts in Tuscany, but is still friendly and not “overgrown”. Being directly on the coast it still as a lot of it’s old fisherman’s charm.  It is wonderful to stroll along the promenade or around the small marina in the cool evening air, or to have an evening meal in one of the many restaurants near to the water.

The small town is at the southern end of the alluvial land that runs down from Rosignano, the hills come down practically to the coast.  San Vincenzo has about 3km of sandy beach with lovely bathing spots.  The small harbour is just the right size for a walk -  in the red light of the sunset,  just the right backdrop for super holiday photos.  In the Via Emanuele and on the Corso Italia it is just bustling with typical  Italian (holiday) activities and Italian flair especially in the evening in the high season. The shops are all open till late, there is pizza directly out of the oven and ice cream parlours for a Gelato after dinner.

The fine sand of the beach slopes off to the sea which is very shallow and perfect  for children.   There are more bathing resorts further south along the Via della Principessa (named after Napoleon’s sister, Princess Elisa Bonaparte Baciocci, who lived in Piombino)  that connects St. Vincenzo with Piombino  The 5km long pine woods (Parco Naturale di Rimigliano) runs along side the beach, and you can also find quiet places and clearings for a rest – picnic areas with tables and toilets are all signposted. But from here the beaches go off very deep.
